2011-12-15 Green Incentive: an environmental benefits programme can boost employee engagement
An environmental benefits programme can boost employee engagement and bring efficiency savings.
Tim Roberts, managing director of corporate social responsibility services provider Good Measures, says one of the most effective ways for organisations to reduce their carbon footprint is to motivate staff to play their part by rewarding them with the cost savings achieved through their efforts.
"There is a brilliant opportunity here for employers to work with trade unions on efficiency gains," says Roberts. "It just makes such good economic sense...If every employee gets fully involved in a sustainability programme, the savings could be significant."
Good Measures has launched a service that encourages staff to improve their employers environmental sustainability and benefit from the resulting cost savings, which could be as much as £1,000 a year per employee.
